Mojave Valley Rc adventures
Known for its majestic beauty and harsh landscapes, the Mojave Desert is an arid and wide open space perfectly suited for rock crawling and desert racing year round. Our home town of Las Vegas places us in the upper northeast region of the Mojave Desert, providing us easy access to endless rock crawling terrain.
Here at MVRCA, we invite you to follow along on some of our research and evaluation projects, as well as seeing how we set up the various RC platforms. We also invite your to simply read along for the sake of entertainment and to learn a bit more about our unique desert environment. Above is a Menu drop-down tab, and that is the primary way to navigate around the content of this website. For those who do take the time to read the articles, I appreciate your time and interest and I hope you continue to follow along. |
From time to time we are asked about testing tires and crawlers on different terrain, such as wet rock or muddy trails. It's not an unusual request in that rock crawling is a sport enjoyed world-wide.
Our reasoning of our focus on desert terrain is comprised of a few different elements, but the primary reason is that the Southwest region of the USA is the birthplace of modern-day rock crawling. Southern California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico all have large rock crawling communities hosting countless events specifically focused on rock crawling and desert racing. They been around for decades and have built the reputation as the place to test and compete. If you're talking about world-class rock crawling or desert racing, you're talking about these areas. |
Rock crawling in the Southwest is accessible nearly year round, with hundreds of square miles of public lands open for adventure. Here in Las Vegas, it's an uncommon day where the weather prevents us from crawling, and the wide open spaces keep things interesting with a seemingly endless number of rocks and trails to explore. At times the summer heat can be challenging, but it's hard to think back on a entire week passing without us out on the rocks. With the some of our favorite crawling spots less than a 15 minute drive from the shop, we tend to be on the trail every couple of days for testing or just casual crawling fun.
Finally, our focus is driven by what we have the most experience with; rock crawling in the desert. With our testing solely focused on the terrain of our area, it creates a standard baseline of testing where tires and trucks can be easily compared. At times we do venture for new and different terrain, but our focus will remain on the performance of crawlers, buggies, and trail trucks in our desert terrain.

Our primary goal is to share with you a unique depth of high-quality information which cannot be found anywhere else on the internet.
Our structure is built around written content with some support from photos and short video clips. We believe that if you're going to take the time to write thousands of words on a specific topic, you actually need to understand the topic. There is no short-cut to this approach; you must invest the time and resources to accomplish such a task, and it's nothing we shy away from. And to that end, we hope you enjoy the content we present. -MVRCA |
Random Thoughts...
We are still not completely sure what to do with our pair of Element Gatekeepers. Both started as kits, but evolved into two distinctly different beasts; one is setup as a U4 Rock Racer and the other as a dedicated rock crawling buggy. The rock crawling buggy has been rather impressive on the trail, but there is no escaping the weight of the cage nor the narrow track width. Even with those deficiencies, it still handles most trail challenges, and it still feels like a Gatekeeper. That said, improvements can be made to increase its rock crawling ability, but it may come at the expense of it losing some of the Gatekeeper personality. We gotta think this over a bit and decided what we want to do. 7/17/2024 |
