2.9" Crawler Tire Testing
The 2.9” crawler tire class is defined by the diameter of the wheel, measuring nominally 2.9” on the inside, behind the beadlock lip. The associated tires have a nominal 2.9” inside diameter of the tire bead.
This type of tire mounts to the wheel either with glue on a plastic wheel or is pinched between the inner ring of a beadlock wheel and the inner wheel-lip and outer beadlock ring. At this time Axial is the only manufacturer of a crawler / trail truck ( SCX-6 Jeep and Honcho ) which uses this wheel size, but hopefully we will see more manufacturers join the market for this larger sized crawler. |
Surprisingly, there is a growing number of companies now offering 2.9" tires and custom wheels for the Axial SCX-6 platforms, and I'm also pleased to see other companies like Crawler Innovations and Proline Racing offering two-stage foams for these tires. We are going to review more of these tire options soon, as well as looking closer at the various foam and anti-foam options for this tire class.
