1.9" Crawler Tire Testing
The 1.9” crawler tire class is defined by the diameter of the wheel, measuring nominally 1.9” on the inside, behind the beadlock lip. The tires have a nominal 1.9” inside diameter of the tire bead. The tire mounts to the wheel either with glue on a plastic wheel or is pinched between the inner ring of a beadlock wheel and the inner wheel lip and outer beadlock ring.
These tires come in a wide range of sizes from as small as 4.19” to as large as 4.75”
In a popularity contest, the 1.9” wheel size is easily the market favorite on the RC crawler scene. Much of this popularity is due to the wide range of tire sizes available in the 1.9” category, appealing to both the performance and competition crawlers as well as the highly detailed “scaler” market.
Many of these tires are licensed replicas of their 1:1 counterpart, molded with an incredible amount of detail and precision. Other 1.9” tires have developed completely new and unique tread patterns specifically focused on performance on the trail. They also look pretty nifty as well.
The 1.9” size was not my first crawler, but after a few years of crawling with different wheel sizes, it has become my favorite. 1.9” trucks feel the most “real” in terms of truck handling characteristics out on the trail, and capable of scaling technical features that seem nearly impossible for such a small truck.
There is a lot of ground to cover when it comes to testing 1.9” crawler tires, and we will do our best to quickly and thoroughly examine each tire as it undergoes the review process. Some will really shine on the trail, while others will turn out to be duds, but no matter the result, a day out on the trail is always a good day.
I hope you enjoy the reviews in this section, and I appreciate your time spent on the website.
